Netherlands - Leiden University offers scholarships to outstanding non-EU/EEA students pursuing an English taught master’s degree programme at Leiden University.

Who is eligible
Non-EU/EEA students enrolling in a Leiden University master’s degree programme starting September 2009 or February 2010 ( All MA, MSc and LL.M programmes as mentioned on the website Master’s programmes in Leiden).

All nationalities enrolling in the following programmes starting September 2009 or February 2010:
- Master of Laws: Advanced Studies in Air and Space Law
- Master of Laws: Advanced Studies in European and International Business Law
- Master of Laws: Advanced Studies in International Tax Law
- Master of Laws: Advanced Studies in Public International Law
- MA in International Relations and Diplomacy

Students should be aware that the LExS is not a full scholarship. It is necessary to find additional funding to be able to finance their study and stay completely.

One of the requirements for being granted a residence permit in the Netherlands is that students must submit proof that they have sufficient financial means to finance their study period in the Netherlands. Leiden University advises a budget, not including the tuition fee, of approx. €10,000 to €14,000 per year to cover the costs for rent, insurance, living expenses, course books and local transportation. How much money students actually spend will of course depend on their life style and spending habits.

APPLICATION

To apply for the scholarship, you should write a letter of motivation (in Word) of a maximum of 500 words, in which you indicate why you believe you should be considered for this scholarship. The Word document can then be attached to your online application for the master’s programmes for which you are applying.

A Minority scholarship is targeted to minority communities at many higher education institutions. Apply For and Get Your Minority Scholarship For College

There is a lot of competition out there for minority scholarships, but getting that application in is half the battle. So, where should you start?

Applying for a minority scholarship should be based on what your potential college hopeful might be going into, since there are available scholarships for almost every college and curriculum and its best to gear your requests towards those schools. Sometimes you’ll find people embarrassed about asking for scholarships, but this is one time your pride will cut you off from the potential of an education for your child. If your college-bound son or daughter has an interest in a subject that isn’t mainstream, you might feel that a minority scholarship probably doesn’t exist, but you would be mistaken. Grants and scholarships are given by colleges due to alumni contributions and federal money. If you don’t apply, you’ll never find out if one is available.

Remember, the key is that you need to apply for each and every minority scholarship where you meet the requirements. Most can be done online so there is not even the cost of a postage stamp involved with it, just the very simple requirement that you APPLY. Stop wishing and start applying today!

University of Tsukuba offers Policy Management master program.This Program has been operating from April 1995 and it is the oldest Partner Program in Japan of the Joint Japan/World Bank Graduate Scholarship Program, a large scholarship program funded by the Government of Japan and managed by the World Bank Institute in Washington. In addition to that sponsorship, which ensures the award of ten scholarships to successful applicants to this Program, the University of Tsukuba hold similar arrangements with the Inter-American Development Bank.

Applicants admitted to the Program in Economic and Public Policy Management are eligible for scholarships provided by the Joint Japan/World Bank Graduate Scholarship Program (JJ/WBGSP) of the World Bank and the Japan-IDB Scholarship Program of the Inter-American Development Bank provided that they meet the specific requirements of each program as described below.

Fifteen scholarships are provided by the JJ/WBGSP for this purpose. To be eligible, a candidate must be a national of a World Bank member country that is currently eligible to borrow from the Bank. In addition, Executive Directors, their alternates, and staff of the World Bank Group,including consultants, as well as their close relatives, are excluded from consideration.

Candidates should also be aware that, according to the general selection criteria of the World Bank,“while applicants from allWorld Bank member countries may apply for a JJ/WBGSP scholarships, the program gives priority to World Bank member countries currently eligible to borrow,especially low and middle-income countries.The program also gives priority to: women; applicants with few other resources and from lower social and economic classes;applicants who have not had previous opportunities for graduate study outside their home country; and applicants who do not already hold a graduate degree from an industrialized country� (for further information, see http://www.worldbank.org/wbi).

In addition to these fifteen scholarships, the Japan-IDB Scholarship Program of the Inter-American Development Bank offers no less than two scholarships to applicants from countries in Latin America and the Caribbean. Applicants from this region will be advised on their options at the proper time (see more at ttp://www.iadb.org/int/eng/japan_scholarship.htm).

The scholarships benefits cover:

• economy class travel between the home country and Tsukuba, plus a travel allowance of US$ 500 for each one-way trip
• tuition and other Program fees
• a monthly stipend for subsistence needs roughly equivalent to that given by the scholarships program of the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology of Japan (currently 170,000 yen monthly)
• medical insurance costs

These benefits cover only the scholarship recipient and are not extendable to family members. Other costs not covered by the scholarship:

• additional travel during the course of the Program
• expenses related to research,supplementary educational materials,or participation in workshops,seminars, or internships while at the University of Tsukuba.

The maximum period of funding is two years.

Recipients of JJ/WBGSP scholarships will not be eligible for employment with the World Bank for a period of three years after the completion of the Program. Those obtaining a scholarship from the Japan-IDB Scholarship Program of the Inter-American Development Bank are required to return to their native country for at least two years upon completion of their degree. As in the case of the World Bank, Executive Directors, staff and their close relatives are excluded from consideration.

Description:

Solar cells are now a standard high tech product. However, current thin film solar cells use rare and expensive materials like indium. With decreasing manufacturing costs of the modules material prices will become more important. In our project we look for alternative materials for solar cells which will be relevant in future generation solar cells.

Within a joint cooperative project of several Universities and research institutes we will prepare at the University of Mainz new thin film materials and characterize the inner interfaces of solar cell structures by high energy photoemission using our synchrotron measurement facilities. The material we grow will serve as absorber material in p-i-n type solar cells.

The candidate should have a good knowledge on solid state physics and/or thin film technology. Social competence is needed for integration in a research team as well as for a llimited amount of teaching obligations at the University. Fluency in English is a must, knowledge of German will be helpful.

Start of the project will be in October 2009

Ph.D. positions in computational bio NMR

The research group of Prof. Peter Güntert at the Institute of Biophysical Chemistry of the Goethe University Frankfurt am Main invites applications for Ph.D. and postdoctoral positions in Hyper-dimensional NMR spectroscopy for automated protein structure determination.

The positions are funded for three years by a research grant of the DFG (Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft). The research project involves the development of automated multidimensional NMR methodology and its application to structural studies of proteins. The positions are located in the Center for Biomolecular Magnetic Resonance (BMRZ) of the University of Frankfurt, which is equipped with 13 state-of-the-art NMR spectrometers (400-950 MHz) and excellent computing facilities.

The successful candidate must have a M.Sc. or equivalent or Ph.D. degree in a relevant field of science, excellent programming skills in higher programming languages, and experience in biomolecular NMR.
